The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved the application by 3 political parties – Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) – to merge into one. They are now officially know as All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to a statement issued by the secretary to the commission:
INEC found that the parties have met all statutory requirements for the merger and has therefore granted their request, Abdullahi A. Kaugama said.
The statement noted that INEC had approved the withdrawal of the individual certificates of the three parties, and the issuance of a single certificate to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
