Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has played down the current
position of the Super Eagles in the latest FIFA ranking which was
released on Thursday, August 8, reports Completenigeria.com.
The Eagles who are billed to take on Bafana Bafana of South
Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on August 14 in Durban,
maintained their 35th position in the world and 5th on the
continent with 700 points.
However, speaking with Supersport, 2013 AFCON winning coach,
Keshi, says he is unperturbed by the team’s current position.
“I don’t know how the rankings work, so I am not worried
about it. What I am worried about is seeing my team play well,”
Keshi stated.
Meanwhile, Cote d’Ivoire still maintain their number position in
Africa and are 18 in the world. Ghana are second and are 24 in the
world ranking, followed by AFCON 2013 semi-finalist Mali, who are
placed third and number 32, while Algeria occupy the fourth spot
and 34th best team in the world.
