NATIONAL YOUTHS ASSEMBLY SET IN ABUJA
By Saviour Ekpe
The Christian ecumenical centre, Abuja is expected to fill to capacity on a-one- day national Christian youths conference to brainstorm on some religious and national issues bordering on moral ethics, discipline, state of the nation, Nigeria and the way forward on the security challenges ravaging the country.
The assembly which is billed up for November 23, 2013 will has as its quest speaker, Prof. Duro Adegboye, a former Dean, Faculty of science, Ahmadu Bello University, an eloquent and motivational speaker.
The National Christian youth assembly is powered by a faith-based, non-profit making and non-governmental organization, YOUTH ALIVE IN CHRIST with its international headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria.
In a statement, the President and founder of the organization, Prof. Mayen Ekaete Adiuku-Brown and made available to newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital said that the event is aimed at informing and redirecting the minds at youths in Nigeria to refocus on positive reasoning and the fear of God instead of channeling them to social vices such as robbery, kidnapping and restiveness which according to her are capable of ruining their lives and future, “The objective of this assembly is to mobilize, inform, redirect and sensitive the Christian youths to refocus their attention on the Lord, seek His help, the cooperation of all Nigerians to excel in self actualization as well as support the rebuilding of Nigeria in the interest of all Nigerians”.
Prof. Adiuku-Brown, a lecturer in the University of Jos in the Department of Geology and Mining regretted that youths are being used as political thugs and dumped soon after the election, which according to her is what gives birth to most of the social vices, “The usual practice is for the youth to be hired and paid some pittance as a political thug during electioneering campaign, become abandoned thereafter, just to be called upon during the next campaign. The lives of several of these youths get wasted and they embark on all manner of vices while the society inherits youth restiveness, kidnappings, armed robbery, etc. the youth alive in Christ wishes to apply the same style of mobilization to retrieve the youth for the service of God and humanity”, she noted.
The convener called on local and state governments as well as public-spirited individuals and organizations to sponsor transport fares of youths in their respective states and local governments to attain the event as it will bring about the needed transformation in the lives of the youths in particular and the nation, Nigeria in general.
For further information and details about the programme, participants and or sponsors should reach Prof. Mayen Ekaete Adiuku-Brown on the following contacts: 08034419264, email:[email protected]. It promises to make a turnaround for Nigerian youths.
