A woman stabbed her mother in the chest, at Old Ojo Road, Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos State, on Thursday over the soccer match between Athletico Madrid and Chelsea Football Club.

The woman, identified simply as Funmilayo, was said to have made a bet that Athletico Madrid would defeat Chelsea while her neighbour, a man identified as Seun, said that the result would be the other way round.

They agreed that Funmilayo bet with N1,000 against Seun’s N5, 000 and the duo agreed to respect their side of the bargain, as they gave the money to a woman identified as Anna.

LEADERSHIP FRIDAY investigations revealed that immediately the match ended in the night, an excited Funmilayo ran to Anna, demanding  the money.

Meanwhile, Anna was said to have been shouting at Seun who had wrenched the money from her and left behind only N2, 000.

An eyewitness, Martins disclosed that Seun demanded that Anna give N1000 to Funmilayo, because that was the amount she dropped for the betting.

According to Martins, when Anna informed Funmilayo about the development, she headed straight to Seun’s apartment, demanding for the remaining N4,000.

Martins said that Funmilayo had held on to Seun’s shirt and he had slapped her.

Angered by the slap, Funmilayo grabbed a bottle close by, smashed it and was threatening to stab Seun, when her mother came in-between them, only to be mistakenly stabbed by her daughter.

Funmilayo’s mother was said to have been rushed to the Isolo General Hospital for medical attention.

Seun reportedly escaped from the scene before the victim’s other children would return home.

A police sergeant at the Satelite Police Station, along Old Ojo Road, said the victim would not report the incident, because she was mistakenly stabbed by her daughter.
