LASU Reopens 23 June, Slashes Fees

Students of Lagos State University have been asked to resume by 23 June, about three weeks after the authorities asked the students to proceed on ‘compulsory recess’.

According to a press statement made available to P.M. NEWS, both Fresh and Returning undergraduate students of Lagos State University are to resume for normal academic activities on Monday.

The Students according to the statement are expected to commence payment of school fees as approved by the governing council and also register, as the portal would be opened today Friday, June 20, 2014.

Registration for students would be allowed for two (2) weeks commencing from Friday, June 20, 2014 and to end by the midnight of July 6, 2014
The press statement reveals that the new tuition fees can be paid in full or in two instalments of 70 percent (Harmattan Semester) and the balance of 30 percent at the beginning of Rain Semester.

With the revised fees schedule for all the faculties based on the 34% – 60% reduction made by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governing Council of the University has approved a new school fees of 49.3% reduction which amount to N76, 250.00 for final year student in the Art Department, and N158, 250.00 for a 200 level Engineering and Medical (Direct entry) student.

Based on the same percentage sharing, 100 level student in the Adebola Adegunwa School of Communication are to pay N103, 250.00, and a 200 level student (Direct Entry) will be required to pay same fee, while a 200 level returning student pays N88, 250.00.

For the students of College of Medicine, new intake and final year students are expected to pay N115, 750.00, while 200 level and Direct Entry students are to pays N158, 250.00, representing a 36.4% reduction.

The new fee also stipulated that 100 level Engineering students are to pays N115,750.00, while the returning students from 200 to 500 levels are to pay N143, 250.00, N143, 250.00, N131, 750.00 and N106, 750.00 respectively.

For the Faculty of Management Sciences, 100 level through to final year are to pay N103, 250, N113, 250, N98, 250, N98, 250, N86, 750 and N86, 750.00 respectively. The Faculty of Science students are to pay N115, 750, N118, 250, N103, 250, N113, 250, N106, 750 and N96, 750.

“In view of this development, the Management has now directed that all students of the University (Full-Time, Part-Time and Postgraduate) are to resume for the session on Monday, June 23, 2014 to commence the payment of school fees/ registration for the 2013/2014 academic session,” the management wrote in its release.

The statement enjoined students to be law- abiding and to go about their academic activities without fear of any molestation. It would be recalled that the Management directed all Students of the University to proceed on recess with immediate effect from Monday, June 02, 2014.

The University management reiterated that the rescheduled fee is not applicable to students at 400 level and above.

on 2 June, the authorities had directed that all students proceed on a compulsory recess and vacate the university premises.

This directive was contained in an official bulletin marked LASU/CIPPR/146.

Therein, the university management directed that all students; full-time, part-time and postgraduate of the university to proceed on recess with immediate effect, amidst protests by the students.
