
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested Mr. Madu Abuchi Simon, an Igbo man, in Lagos State for engaging in the production and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
He was found to be illegally bottling and branding fake drinks using names of reputable brands like Hennessy, Baileys, and others.
The operation was uncovered in Apongbon, Lagos Island, where Mr. Simon was caught red-handed in the act of faking these drinks.
NAFDAC operatives confiscated counterfeit products worth over ₦114 million.
Several branded bottles, caps, labels, and packaging materials were also seized.
The production took place in unhygienic and non-compliant facilities, posing serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.
Mr. Simon is currently under investigation, and legal proceedings are expected to follow.
NAFDAC has reiterated its warning to consumers to only buy alcoholic drinks from reputable sources and to report any suspicious activities or packaging irregularities.
