Niger Delta Crises? ReplyThe System of Government which allows a single tier to superceed the others and carry out decisions and actions without considering the opinions of the other tiers, or even the citizenry. The System of Government which allows a single party to rig itself into Government, without respect for the wishes of the citizenry, or considering the votes of the citizenry. The System of Government which allows Square pegs in round holes. What business does a lecturer who hasn't been able to impact on the lives of his students, have becoming the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, what military xperience does he have? The Mediocricy of The Government, at all levels of Government, from the Federal, to the State, to the LG, which makes them not able to do what they ought to. Look at the various ministries we have, all dysfunctional.If all the ministries where performing their intented functions, I'm sure there'd have been tons of jobs for ppl to do. Elpadroni,i agree with u almost totally,apart from where u say a C-in-C must ve prior formal military experience.that's not a requisite 4 becoming a President in a modern democracy, that we are aspiring to build. ReplyYou also did not say anything about the role of ethnic based political domination in the crises. In all,I like ur comment.
| |||||
Like someone said before, the comunity leaders and the greed of the ppl themselves. They started it all by fighting among themselves... Isoko, urhobo, ijaw etc. ReplySpeach is silver, silence is Gold!

Samurai!The inter-ethnic clashes in the Niger Delta is not a cause of the crises.Those are symptoms of the crises.Ur argument on this 1 is cyclically.It's like saying Africa is underdeveloped because its people are poor. ReplyThe Niger Delta Crises have 2 components,name:(1)The crisis of underdevelopment;&(2)The crisis of Instability.It's these components that led to the intra & inter-communal & ethnic clashes.The political economy of these conflicts is the quest 4 access 2 the fruits of the oil wealth that comes from their ethnic home-lands. In conclusion,it is the Niger Delta Crises that gave birth 2 those conflicts & not the other way round.

The government is crap .Even want 2 worsen the prob by seekin foreign aid. You cant expect less from a govt that dont have its citizenry in mind. I suggest yaradua goes personally 2 resolve issues. Thats what obtainable elsewhere. Lets see some seriousness Reply![]()

Great points guys, but i think we should keep prayering for the nation because if you look at Nigeria so much is happening but it has not lead to war and bombs every where, God's hand is in this nation i see it everyday how, in the way the country is going, the guys in the niger delta have decided to sell their soul to the devil, becos right now they have moved from kidnapping innocent citizen, just 2 week ago they returned a girl they kidnap after asking her brother to bring them some millions which he didn't have becos he was just a worker, they not only raped the girl who is how in the hospital but they did not turns i think that was bad. God gave us freedom to live our lives well but some people have chosen the wrong part which will lead to their destruction if they dont change!!!!!! Reply

Insentivity of leadership of Niger Delta has immensely contributed to the show of shame in that region. Moreover the people of the region, too, seem not to be ready to get themselvews extricated from the schakle of backwardness and poverty as they contiunue to help these rogues to power. They must now rise against the traitors that parade themselves as leaders in that region. These leaders tactically collude with the power that be in the centre to further impoverish the hapless niger Deltans. What have they done with the huge financial resources they have drawn from the federal purse to advance the economy and political stability of the region? Reply

I agree wit shizou .as 4 the rape. MEND has said its not responsible 4 such kidnappings rather some other degenerate elements under their guise.. recently MEND issued a 30-day ultimatum 2 blow up an oilwell in response to the bribe alleged by NNPC... lets see wat happens Reply

Am very sorry for joining you at this point may be I might have prevented some of your unenlightened statements. ReplyFirstly “to call a spade a spade” the crisis in the Niger Delta is as a result of pre-colonial miss-adventure in the governing and amalgamation of independent kingdoms with little or no consultation of the people for the betterment of the British Empire. Secondly the colonial government had proposed to handle the Niger Delta Area as a special area before independence but I guess our independence over shadowed that attempt. Next the Niger Delta Area fell into an independent Nigerian state as a house divided with little or no binding factor with which to lobby for special attention. And then the oil boom came, without proper understanding, with a high degree of nonchalance and disregard the Niger Delta Area has been exploited, our lands and rivers violated to pollution with little means of livelihood. Now due to the pollution, underdevelopment and deprivation of this region, for these are the foundation for this devil’s workshop, the pillars of hunger and anger has held the walls of hatred, greed, corruption, helplessness and all forms of wickedness, thus the house called crisis was built on my homeland the Niger Delta Area.

Niger Delta is becoming an albatros. I have read various thread from very learned people among us, i have read people who praised the Millitant, as thier hero. I have also read people who veilfy them as criminals element. We need to disabuse our mind on various point. Number one the most powerful nation in the world America, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, France, China, Russia and Australia. Non of this nation depend on oil. Infact some does not even have a signle oil Barrel they are the most power and most prosperous. ReplyHuman being are the most vital and most important of any country today. Tapping into human potential can bring unimaginable profit to any nation. To say that niger delta is the hope of nigeria is far from the truth. All states collect allocation from the federal government and they should be accountable for it in fact Oil producing state collect more money 13 % more than all other state. Where are all these money going into. It is going to the pocket of the like of Ibori, Alamasea the governor general of Ijaw nation who stole so much and still being celebrated. The Igbinedon who did birthday in more than three continenet. and whose children donate a Cardillac worth I,000,000.00 Pounds i laugh. Even if nigeria separate today the niger deltans will continue to suffer cause they lack visionary leaders who can turn things araound. The leaders they have are the millitants sponsored by political leaders I am looking for a day when Nigeria will go back to regions structure like we had in days of Pa Obafemi Awolowo who build The TV station, Stadium,Cocoa House, University of Ife with Cocoa money. Remeber there is no oil then and mind you we spent our cocoa money together. friend no region will suffer as long as we have good leadeship

Benzion i really liked your post,it was as if you knew what was in my mind.i believe that if the people of Niger-Delta want their region to be developed, then they must give peace a chance.with all the kidnappings going on,nothing would change.the region will not develop.i just heard Julius Berger pulled out of the region. And again,take the North as an example,they get less allocation,but they are more developed compared to the Niger delta.we should ask ourselves why is this so? ReplyWith that being said,it becomes necessary for EFCC to prove the governors of the Niger delta and the people of Niger delta must give this administration a chance.

as far as i can tell,the militants are just after money...all these crisis is just part of naija political culture which begins with every individual.. Reply
| |||||
You all are missing the point here the militants, the corrupt governors and every other criminality are not the root of the crisis they are the fruits, the result and evidence of the crisis. ReplyIf you want to chase shadows that’s fine but even that will only be more money down the drain. Please if you don’t understand the problems of the Niger Delta, just try to give positive advice and stop trying to judge after all nobody holy pass.

I have been to the region a couple of times and i saw reason why there should be agitation, the level of deprivation, privasion and neglect is wanton but I insist the Niger Delta elites are the problem they are feasting from the awkaward situation and will want the staus quo to remain as long as they will continue to benefit from it. ReplyLet the geniune militants rise now and fight this cause, it is just but they have to strive that bad elements do not hijack this struggle, i fear traitors have infiltrated the strugle giving incesant kidnap of innocent indigenes.

Buddyflex,I must commend u 4 ur clear understanding of the ND crises.Many folks here seem 2 misunderstand the crux of the crises.They are looking @ the symptoms rather than looking @ the ailment.Just 2 reiterate,let me state it here that the so called militants are not part of the crises but an offshoot or offspring of the crises. ReplyThe ND crisis is a crisis of UNDERDEVELOPMENT,caused by unbridled ethnic chauvinism & ethnic based political domination,that ve given those with access to State power,the opportunity 2 exploit & expropriate those without power.In this case,the Niger delta happened 2 be the victims.This crisis of underdevelopment,which is characterized by the Niger Delta masses living in abject penury,while the whole country grow fat from the Petro-dollar, which is earn through activities that ve many negative externalities for the ND people.The frustration that comes out of this(the crisis of Underdevelopment)was/is what ve led to the 2nd crisis-the crisis of INSTABILITY.The crisis of instability has taken various forms.Namely,intra & inter communal & ethnic conflicts,Youth restiveness,hostage taking,insurgence(which some of u call militancy),sabotage of the Fed Govt interest in the area,etc. You cannot understand the Crises without putting it in its proper perspective like this.Some of u ll ask,"is he then saying the Niger delta ruler ain't part of the problem?"I ain't saying that.I'm only saying,u should look past the smoke(flame)& see the fire.Buddyflex talked about a pre-independence agreement to develop the area.Yes the Willinks Commission report said the ND should be declared a SPECIAL AREA 4 development,but nothing was done. For those of you talking about Militancy,ve u ever asked urself why there weren't militancy B4 1999?Have u taken the time out 2 ask urselves why the once peaceful ND people,who actually fought in the side of Nigeria during the 30 Months Civil war,decided to be agitating all of a sudden?It's called CONSCIOUSNESS in Marxism.

My brother tell dem me I don try to talk. ReplyEvery small thing dem go say our leaders corrupt like say e get state when governor no chop money or state when crime no dey happen, na our own be news, abeg make we hear better thing. I for one wrote to some big people about the way things were going to get, way back in 2001 but they did not take it seriously, they were flying up and down with OBJ, Asari was on NTA2’s one on one talk show about the same time, no one took him seriously then. Now everyone is calling us a bad name to hang us, they all want peace at the price of justice, ok make we see how dem when get am. Let’s keep our fingers crossed
