Quote from: basamta on 11-07-2008 12:46 PM If u were the president right now, what would u do as a matter of urgency. Listen, Nigeria is making almost 80dollars for every barrell of crude oil cos a barrell is 140dollars today. with nigeria making so much money now, what would u do withthe cash right now if u were yar'a dua We all know that the oil which is being sold, is gotten from the Niger Delta areas. If I were to be in the shoes of the current president, His Excellency Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'adua, I will use the money to develop the regions of the Niger Delta. When I say develop, I mean;1) Provide good roads. 2) Provide water for the people. 3) Empower the uneducated youths by giving loans to them to start a trade. 4) Provide schemes that generate jobs for the unemployed youths. 5) Provide electricity through sources like Hydroelectricity, Solar power, and the wind turbine. Why I chose this sources of power is due to air pollution this will generate lesser pollution than using usng gas. 6) Provide security in the region. 7) There will be good housing for the people. This are all I can give for now, and they are the basic amenities needed in the region Thanks for featuring me on the Forum.

If I'm made the president of Nigeria Reply1. looking into the employment sector is a priority: the sector need be mobilised to make room for even distribution of the economy money resources:the style of one "man show" or one man receving all the bulk pay in a given employment position would be phased out:the one man show I mean is a situation where in a given employment position, a person is employed and paid =N=1million a month(though a hyperbole), this is really a crazy style and continues to wear out a particular human resources, an employed individual who though would never complain because of greed, as we can see in our today's Banking sector. Every sector needs be made with a style of job shifting in a particular position which entails that two people or more are used to harness a particular position and its resouces in an office per day. instead of paying a =N=1million to just one person, an even distribution would mean two persons are sharing and getting the share of the thesame work and pay and effectively and efficiently working in the given office. This will reduce the unemploment rate; gear a real distribution of money resources, evenly; harness the abundant human and all physical intelligence in our country; and make room for two people to work in two or three industries as the move from one place of work to another in other to make ends meet, which will boost production--no monotony. 2. As a president, I would look forward on all avenues to redeem the Nigerian image abroad. The international politics from all forms singing the music of castigating the most populous and wealthy black nation in the world would be diplomatically and politically stopped. One thing is people are politically drowned to down grade their feeling and boasting they ought to have from their heritage: I mean spoiling the name of a country that is not only the giant of africa, but most resourceful, earns some people the mark of diverting the attention of the supposed people who are supposed to be proud of a wonderfully God made black nation. So, I would really put a stop to any nuisances from all sides that downgrades Nigeria because of its human imperfections; no country or people are perfect in this world anyway. The diplomacy would be in a frame such as is either you are for us or you are against us. 3. As the president of Nigeria, I would look into the taste of my people and try to channel it to more of what we can get economically. The higher the taste of the people of a given country, the higher the time of development. The taste in this contest means the demand by the people of material, physical, and psychological products that they feel is the ultimate in life. For instance, it is hardly a thing to count the number of people riding bicycle in China unlike in Nigeria. As the president, more of volunteerism jobs and works need to be put in place for a show of patriotism. I HAVE MORE TO SAY BUT LET ME STOP HERE

Rewire the entire country. We need constant electricity. ReplyOpen up our borders and build better roads. Get a better educational system in place! Education is key. Better healthcare system. We can't have people in poor districts treating every illness with paracetamol! Better waste disposal and drainage systems... the 20 ft high garbage piles are not a suitable neighbor for anyone! Stronger infrastructure... the list goes on and on!

Salute to my brethren on this site!! Replyjust a quick response to ebovi and Walerian... Waleran has been able to point out why nothing will be enough to satisfy Blood thirsty and backward thinking militants of the Niger-Delta.... For anybody to understand how deplorable Niger-delta is, that person need to relocate there and stay with people there... i happened to served (NYSC03 ) in Niger-delta. After my service year i stayed briefly before i travel abroad. The main reason why i stayed in niger-delta was the people were very accommodating...although there is Yoruba phobia (they always see Yoruba people as a treat) but despite this feelings they are still one of the most hospitable people in Nigeria. My experience! OBJ might be seen today in Nigeria has one of the horrible president the country has ever had in the past...but his regime mark the the beginning of liberation for niger-delta people (He spent so much money on the region so much that, i said to my self, how on earth can we be one Nigeria and more money and opportunity been concentrated in one region like this). to my utmost surprise all the development opportunities provided by OBJ went away begging for people to utilise them..but these militant has makeup their mind they are so desperate and concern about the money they make from extortion through kidnapping. I participated in the survey that was use for NDDC development plan and this gave me the opportunity to visit some core areas of niger-delta.... there is no doubt people live in an eyesore environment and very deplorable condition... but let be sincere with ourselves Rome was not built in a day. somebody has to start the process and that's what OBJ did then...the problem is any plan without people's backing will fail and that's exactly what happened (Niger-Delta people are the greatest enemy to their own development) and if they continues this way, there is danger that many of their generation will continue to suffer their unproductive way of solving problem. THE QUESTION WE SHOULD ASK OURSELVES IS CAN CONFLICT SOLVE PROBLEM? In history conflict has never solved any problem before... after so many distruction of many lives and properties every warring part will meet at the round table and resolve amicably...so this remind of this great question (why do we embark on conflict when it cannot solve our problem) it all about been stupid and so many times human being continues to make this stupid mistake of using conflict. Niger-Delta just like every other parts of Nigeria has so many enemy of progress that provide amu nitions for these ill-fated young men to foment trouble. what can you say about people like (Diepriye (Bayelsa former governor and his younger brother(TO), James Ibori, and crops of many others) who are opportune to b in position to librate their own people but choose otherwise. Now ! This is what i think about Niger-Delta solution... 1. federal government should be serious and ready to solve the problem through constructive dialogue with all the players in this region's problem. 2. the presidency should be 100% involve and do away with middle men.. these people are Nigerian and should have access to the president like everybody. 3. give room for everybody to table their grievances and be ready to accommodate them( although people tends to ask too much than can be realised). 5. Senate should pass bill that will embrace continuous development of the region and else where in Nigeria. 6. Like every strong countries, our Military( Navy, Airforce, marines And others should rise up to their responsibility of safeguarding our country by taken over all the Nigerian Creek and harbour to prevent the development of mil litant. cause it does not speak well of any nation that allow another nation inside her). and this is happening because our military are yet to recover from political slumber they are used to since 1966. 7. I believe the use of force should be the last resort if they fail to embrace peace.. cause these groups of militant don't even have the general interests of their fellow niger-delta people at heart. And lastly to Asari... i think Nigeria Muslim should tell him to desist from associating them with his violent believe..cause Prophet Muhammad never preach violent and if he is truly a Muslim he must embrace a a more civilized way of solving problem. Thanks for reading.
