Canada 2014 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Most Valuable Player, Asisat Oshoala, in this exclusive interview with Saturday Sun Sports revealed how she dropped out of school in order to pursue her football career. She spoke a lot more on her love for the round leather game as well her chance of becoming the queen of African football at the Glo CAF Award held in Lagos on Thursday.

How did you start your football career?
I am Asisat Lamina Oshoala and my fans call me ‘Superzee.’ I grew up in Lagos, Ikorodu to be précised. I started my youth career in F.C Robo; it was there I noticed my talent as a forward. I made most of my early appearances for the senior national team as an attacker midfielder.
Football is my life; I dropped out of school just to pursue my football career. I got my feet into the national team in the year 2011 and my performances brought me offer from Rivers Angel FC, that is how I started my football career.

Looking at Nigeria football, what do you think we can do to improve female football?
Nigeria is blessed with lot of talents when it comes to female football. My perception to the dwindling nature of female football is the fans and the Nigeria Football Federation. Falcons hardly gain attention from soccer loving Nigeria due to the fact that Super Eagles are the main target of all Nigerians. We can only improve if we copy the likes of Germany, Brazil, USA, Sweden and host of other countries, which their football administration is base on equity before the fans.

As a footballer can you recall your most memorable moment on and off the pitch?
I have so many memorable moments, but I can only remember two. The most memorable day of my life was at the 2014 FIFA U-20 women World Cup in Canada, when I received double award as the best player and highest goal scorer. I also remembered the day I received a national award from the President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and I think I can’t forget the day I received a call up letter to play in Lagos for a charity match against the likes of Babatunde Fashola, ex-Eagles stars like Jonathan Akpoborie, Obafemi Martins and host of others.

Looking at the female category of the Glo CAF award, are you confident of the laurel?
Yes I have a very strong confident in my fans. Looking at the female category, I believe I have grew in leaps and bounds. I have got so much experience due to the world-class competition have attended. Looking at my work rate I believe I can win the award.

Who will you tip in the male Category?
Sentiment apart, I think Vincent Enyeama is good to go.

Looking at the Super Eagles of Nigeria, do you think they are still super?
Super Eagles have been always fantastic, but the present crop of players is not that super. I am not saying this due to the fact that they will be absent in this year AFCON; I am saying it due to their lack of consistency in the world of football.

What has been your worst moment in the world of football?
The worst moment was during the U-20 World Cup in Canada. I could remember our final match with Germany, where a goal that would have gave us the title was disallowed. I wept after the game. We gained all possession in that match; we deserved to be the winner.

As a professional footballer, who is your role model?
I have so many role models, both in the male and female categories. But my number one role model is Mercy Akide, while in the male category I love to see Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and the legendary Netherlands star, Clement Sedorf. They all made me and I love to copy their styles.

What should Nigerians expect from you and your teammates at the Women World Cup 2015 in Canada?
All we need is an ultimate support pertaining to the group of death we found ourselves. I believe we can scale through if we keep our current form .I hate people calling us minors. The fact that we found ourselves in a tough group doesn’t mean we should be afraid. In football you don’t need to give your opponent much respect, it will kill the morale of the team, so I urge you all to keep faith in us for a better outing.

What advice do you have for the upcoming stars?
Focus is the proper word I love to use for all upcoming stars. If you are focused the sky is your limit. I have been under unnecessary pressure in the past but the fact that I am focused actually helped me a lot.
