It was learnt that Lucky, who resides near Okuku market, a short distance away from his work place, started beating his daughter after his wife, Ogeyi, the girl’s step-mother, had complained about the girl to him.
“Ogeyi woke him up that morning to inform him that she searched Blessing’s bag and discovered that her pencil was missing. He was annoyed and started beating the girl,” a source said.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said when the beating became severe, people around could not intervene, because the door to Lucky’s apartment was locked, adding that as the beating continued and the girl became weak and could no longer cry, the girl’s step-mother started laughing that the girl was pretending.
The source said neighbours later forced the door open to rescue the girl, but their move was too late as the girl had collapsed, became unconscious and was bleeding through her nostrils.
“When we tried to rush her to the hospital, the vehicle that was to take us came late. She died before we got to the hospital,” said the neighbour, a teacher.
At the poultry where Lucky works, the manager, Tony Ogar said Lucky was his friend that he had known for about five years.
He said the incident must be the handiwork of the devil.
The image maker for the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Dickson Essien, while confirming the incident said that Lucky Daniel had been brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department at the completion of investigations.
