What am I saying? Being a gentleman, just like being a lady or even a leader is not just about position, or financial capability; it’s about treating people right. I believe that to excel in this global village, we need to imbibe cultures that are acceptable everywhere. No doubt, it is almost impossible to know the etiquette that relates to every single culture on earth, however, if one understands the need to consider other people, it is likely that one may scale through any culture easily.

Today, we will look at the specific things that a gentleman should not do both in public and in private. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

A gentleman should not shout at other people irrespective of their social status. Come to think of it, shouting shows you are not in control of yourself and of the situation. Shouting is a little man’s way of expressing himself. A gentleman influences others by his charming courtesy.

A gentleman does not condescend on anybody. The more cultured you are, the more accommodating you are with people. It is ordinary men who think the way to show they are made is to treat other people with disdain. Proper gentlemen relate with everyone, making the effort to ensure each person they meet is treated with dignity and respect. If you have ever met any member of the British royal family, you will find that they take their time to make everyone they meet feel special.

A gentleman should not treat women shabbily. Real gentlemen understand that everyone is equal before God, whether male and female. He also understands that women are of the fairer sex, who are not as privileged in society as men are, so he gives them respect. This does not mean he bows or worships them; but he understands their disadvantages and seeks to compensate them. Even the Bible says men should honour their wives if they want their prayers answered (I Peter 3:7).

A gentleman must not behave unfairly to people. In other words, gentlemen are fair in their dealings with people. To a gentleman, what is good for the gander is also good for the goose. Being fair to all also means showing integrity; a gentleman will deliver on what he promises.

A gentleman does not parade himself. Gentlemen are very circumspect, not boastful. A real gentleman will never attempt to show off to others the number of cars he possess or the number of houses he has built. Simply, a gentleman is not "in your face" as many people do nowadays.

A gentleman is careful with the company he keeps. This is because he understands that friends, to a very large extent, influence thoughts and behaviour.

A gentleman avoids bad communication; this includes sexist, racist or any bad taste joke or comment. A lot of people make the mistake of sending or forwarding emails that depict people of other gender or race or even the disabled in bad taste without realising that they are also presenting themselves in bad taste by doing so. A gentleman will not send or forward anything that presents other people discomfortingly.

Finally, don’t forget we all benefit when we do things right.

omg  why would a gentleman read this? it's too long for a gentleman
