South African actress Mmatjatji Malatji who was recently apprehended at the OR Tambo International airport for possession of drugs has appeared in court.



The actress has featured in a number of soap operas as Isidingo and Scandal.

Malatji was nabbed on Sunday, September 27 as she got in from an Abu Dhabi flight and made to smuggle the drug into the country.

One of the luggage she carried showed ‘suspicious images’ which led to the search, South Africa Revenue Spokesperson Luther Lebelo said.

In the course of the search, the substance weighing 15.4kg and valued at over R4 million was found. Further investigations and tests confirmed the substance as ephedrine, Lebelo said.

Malatji, 29, appeared at the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 29 but her hearing has been moved to October 7, News24 reported.

She will remain in custody of the authorities till the next hearing.
