Leaders cannot be corrupt. When someone in authority start stealing,he/she loses the right to be called a "leader".Leadership is a positive attribute. So it cannot coexist with corruption, which is negative.calling someone a corrupt leader is like calling him a righteous sinner of stupid wise man. It's an unnecessary oxymoron.

Whats wrong with your country and after reading so many comments i think the biggest issue is not corruption as nearly every nation has corruption but division.

Nigeria and lots of African nations are being exploited because they are divided.
Divided people can be better exploited then people who stand together.

The west knows this and tries to keep that division going because its easier to get what they want.

HELGA
The division U talk about is a symptom of the crisis. There is a reason why people are divided. They ve not always being that way.It is predicated on the leadership crisis. One of the hallmarks of Leadership is the ability to bring people together. To mobilize people to work together to achieve organizational goals. The leaders are responsible for the mobilization the people to collectively work towards societal goal attainment.Leaders INSPIRE people.

In conclusion, division, like corruption,is just a symptom of the problem & not the causal factor.

Everything is wrong with Nigeria i think the country is under a course. Like i was coming to discuss smthing worst when i saw the topic could you believe the federal government is dropping the right to host the 2009 u-17 world cup.Pls is our government running mad thou they gave useless reasons 4 doing that like saying 37million naira is too much to host the cup but the last administration could account for  378million naira wasted. Is our government running mad?

What is wrong with that?In fact, this is one of the BEST decisions of this government. What are the economic benefits of ur U-17 World Cup to Nigeria? There is sometime called "cost benefit analysis".For every 1Naira the government sends,we should ve either 1 Naira 50k or #2 benefits.Hosting World Cup(a Jamboree)is a waste of money. Are U not seeing the state of the Global economy?Cant U see the price of Oil is falling? Please dont blame this government unnecessarily.

Godsson.
Although cost wise the government would maybe lose it could bring greater benefits to Nigeria.
In a way portray Nigeria to the world different and more positive then its now.
It could benefit as a holiday destination it could be a start for greater things.

Mind you i said COULD be ok.

Helga! We hosted one in 1999,we still have not seen anything from that. Also,we hosted the All African Games a few years ago. There is still nothing we can realistically claim to have gained from that.Do note one modern truth. Most teams this days travel with their supplies from their home country to international competitions.Team USA for one travel with their food and everything. All they pay for is hotel bills. So what will Nigeria be gaining from that.
A tourist destination is a tourist destination.U dont ve to host anything to make it so.Dubia dont ve to host a World Cup to get people there. With the right leadership, conducive environment & right policies, tourist will come.Till to,The US State Department still have travel alerts warning its citizens from visiting Nigeria.Even if we host a summit of Angels from Heaven,it wont have any fundamental change in peoples' perception of Nigeria. We might enjoy the euphoria for a few months, but, reality must still dawn on all.
I AM IN SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT'S DECISION TO WITHDRAW FROM HOSTING THAT WASTEFUL FIESTA AT A TIME OF GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS.37 Billion Naira would go a long way in fixing how health sector.

Well your right about tourism.
When i went for my 1st Nigerian visa I was  asked why i was going there.
And was told the following thing
As a white woman visiting Nigeria you have a change to be raped, kidnapped, and mugged.
Nice to know isnt it?

In the few weeks i was there i dont know how many times my partner and i had to explain to the police no he was not abusing me but that i was there at my own free will in Lagos.
Police looked in my handbag wallet etc. etc. etc.

Godsson i have traveled around the world a few times and know whats going on.
I have met scammers in Montreal, Hong Kong etc the world is full of them.
But the Tourism will stay away from Nigeria as long as your own government gives Nigeria such a bad reputation.

As i know a event like a international soccer competition will not work with a profit as all those events work with a loss to the government. The Olympics is one of them.

Nigeria just has such a bad name
Even when i did join up on this webside a alert came one to make sure with what country im dealing with. I have had mail returned on a regular basis when i try to send something to Nigeria and it goes on and on.

So the only thing it could give is a more positive outlook for Nigeria and from there tourism could evolve.
But your right the economic downturn at the moment is a big hinder in this.
