The abducted oil workers were said to be going for a training programme in a neighbouring state when they were accosted by the gunmen who forcefully took them into the forest.
It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle was shot by the gunmen while a woman managed to escape.
The Benin/Akure road is fast becoming a safe den for kidnappers, apparently due to its lonely nature.
Last week, operatives of the Edo police command intercepted and arrested some boys within that axis with four AK 47 rifles.
Security sources in the state said following activities of criminals on the road, a combined team of policemen and men of the Department of State Service (DSS), have been combing the bush in search of the kidnappers.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo Police Command, DSP Osifo Abiodun, who confirmed the abduction of the oil workers, said the police were on top of the situation.
He added that a detachment of police personnel has been deployed to the area with a mandate to rescue the victims.
