Two female staff of the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Akure, Ondo State, are now in police custody for allegedly using the sanitary pads of the students for ritual purpose. The women attached to the kitchen of the college were accused by the students of secretly picking their used pads. The suspects were said to have confessed to the crime.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident. He said two women were in the police custody while the command had commenced investigation into the matter. The PPRO, who refused to mention the names of the suspects, however, noted that the command had not been able to establish whether or not the suspects used the sanitary pads for ritual purposes as alleged.
Joseph appealed to the students to remain calm and promised that the police would get to the root of the matter. He said: “The matter is still at the realm of allegation, so as I’m speaking with you, we are still investigating.” The suspects were allegedly fond of going to the dustbins of the school to pick used sanitary pads and some other personal items belonging to the girls who are in boarding house.
It was gathered that some of the students caught two of the workers picking their used pads. They reported the matter to their teachers who reported it to the principal. The Principal, Mrs. Florence Ejikeme, it was learnt, ordered the immediate suspension of the women and started investigating the matter.
A source said the action of the school authorities did not go down well with the students who attempted to stage a protest last Friday. But the intervention of the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, Mr. Akin Ashimolowo, prevented the protest. It was learnt that Ashimolowo promised the students that he would get to the root of the matter but he allegedly did not do anything about it.

Let the principal of that school and the chairman of pta be quized very. Their actions are more than meeting the eyes. Used sanitary pads are used for money rituals and the owner of the sanitary pad will never be able to have children for life, unless miracle happens.
