The last time Manchester City played at the Bernabeu, it ended with a jubilant Jose Mourinho hammering on the walls of the Manchester City dressing room.
Mourinho, who was then the Real Madrid manager was seen shouting “**** you, Mancini!” after his team had scored two late goals to snatch a 3-2 win over the Blues – there is little love lost between those two.
City head there wiser, with a manager who excites only respect from decent opposition bosses, and who has a big edge in experience on Zinedine Zidane.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says he "would do exactly the same again" after playing a weakened team at Southampton, with Wednesday's game against Real Madrid in mind.
He made eight changes from Tuesday's 0-0 Champions League semi-final first leg draw with the Spanish giants and they lost 4-2 at St Mary's.
"I think we could've played on Saturday and named a stronger team," Pellegrini told BBC Sport.
"But we had to prioritise Wednesday."
He said: "We continue in the Premier League in the next two games to be in the top four so that was a risk, but one we also had to take."
In another development, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training on Sunday following a thigh injury as he bids to prove his fitness for Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final second leg tie against Manchester City on Wednesday.
The forward limped off the field in the closing stages of the Spanish giants' 3-0 win over Villarreal on April 20 and has been absent for the following three matches, including the goalless draw against City last week.
But Real announced their captain had returned to training ahead of the return tie against Manuel Pellegrini's men at the Bernabeu.
The 31-year-old trained with his team-mates for the first half of the session before working individually for the remainder.
Prior to his injury, Ronaldo had played every minute in this season's Primera Division, scoring 31 times. He is the leading scorer in the Champions League this campaign with 16 goals from 10 appearances.
