Ahead of the “Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Africa: Challenges and Prospects for Development” summit in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

My name is Mwebe Shad, founder of ModernServe.com [The Site that conects the world for JOBS & Real Estates]. I am a computer Engineer University of London graduate. And yes, I believe in Modernisation. The reason I am writing this Article is really simple – I am calling on all African Leaders as they meet at the summit to focus on developing new policies on how to tap the High speed Internet. I am sure African governments have the will to implement the proposals on Improving ICT in Africa, but first, I think what is needed is to modernise government basic structure by digitising all the content they have in offices. Although the political will might be there, I would like to stress to the Leaders that ACTION is needed to Invest in building up the capacity to do it. The time is now!

It’s without a doubt that ICT is the foundation by which Africa can instantly meet its development needs. Poor access to information is in fact the main  cause of Africa’s inability to deal with some basic problems like expand agriculture production, provide low cost medical treatments, access the material that maybe available in  another country example Education materials that may otherwise not be available free of charge.

However a computer without electricity is no use, therefore Africa must also do more in developing other complementary Infrastructures like Energy. This could be an opportunity to explore the potential of tackling Hydro power, Wind power, Solar and other forms of energy. One fact I can point out is that we all know Africa has the highest wind potential – we should be thinking about how to harness that resource and many other resources. Furthermore the installation of fibre optics should drastically improve the quality of Telephony in Africa.

As a Web developer and an Online marketing adviser, I think this is too important to be ignored, Moreover there are a bevy of opportunities out there to get attention for the internet.

How important is it for a woman to change her surname after marriage? How do we look at the uprising scenario were the women are keeping their surnames and adding the husbands surname at the end?
