Hours ago, Femi Gbajabiamila announced that the bill which will restrict foreigners from getting employment before Nigerians has passed its second reading, and this has sparked reactions on social media. The debate on giving employments to foreigners where a citizen is qualified for same has always been a controversial issue all over the world. In 2012, an American woman Wendel called out President Obama over claims that her husband couldn’t get employment because high-skilled jobs were given to foreigners. The conversation revealed that there was an increase in the number of visas given to expats, the abuse of the expat quota which cuts short the opportunities for qualified Americans to gain employment. Also, Singaporeans have complained that their young graduates find it difficult to get jobs and it is all thanks to the high number of foreigners in the country who are taking all the good opportunities away. This, reportedly, had led to a tensed relationship between the citizens and foreigners. In a similar vein, Kenya recently enforced a law which will now make it difficult for immigrants to get jobs, plus those who are already working are at risk of losing their jobs, too.And so, Femi Gbajabiamila pushing for a replication of same in Nigeria, has led to arguments on social media: are foreigners truly taking away high-skilled job opportunities from qualified Nigerians? See the arguments by those against the bill:

@femigbaja Dear Sir, instead of creating laws to restrict foreigners from getting jobs, why not pass laws to encourage job creation?

Nigerians will abandon the major problem begin wailing on mere issue,as a matter of fact how many nigerians graduates can handle the work of high skilled machine or computers, u guys should build nigeria first b4 competing with other develop countries and make nigeria a conducive environment for nigerians especially the ones living in foriegn lands so dat they will be encourage to come home and display their talents added to the ones of home based, boc to build nigeria we need a mix-up talent both local and foriegn dexterities,i an not trying to air an odd animadversion against nigerians home-based,no,...i am only trying to apply model wisdom.

people appointed to lead this country are confused. what kind of bill is this? Our educational system is poor and there is no bill to improve that. Non of our Universities made it to the list of best universities in the world, so what kind of graduates do we have. Most Nigerian graduates especially in the Engineering fields have not even done up 1/4 of what graduates of Engineering in most foreign schools have undergone. so now we should give jobs to these graduates?. who will suffer as a result of wasted resources from failed projects? as it stands now, for a Nigerian graduate to be employed in a Multinational company or organization, you must be really sound. So now these companies will be forced to employ Nigerians at all cost?... smh
