Former militant commanders in Rivers and Bayelsa states have called on the Presidency to probe the diversion of over N50bn by the committee in charge of implementing the amnesty.
Although the committee has been disbanded, the ex-militant leaders urged Acting President Goodluck Jonathan not to allow the alleged mismanagement of the fund to be swept under the carpet in view of the current war on corruption.
A former commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Mr. Eris Paul, a.k.a Commander Ogunboss, said in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Tuesday, that with the new focus of the implementation of the post-amnesty programme under the Special Adviser on Niger Affairs, Mr. Timi Alaibe, there was need to investigate how the funds of the previous committee was disbursed and utilised.
“We know so much money was released into the programme but they diverted it. If we want to do the right thing, we must make sure people account for the money. Nothing is working as expected since then,” he said.
