Amazing! 11-Year-Old Best Mathematics Pupil Emerges In Imo

Eleven-year-old pupil of the Living World Academy, Owerri, Chimemerie Chidi-Azubike has emerged as the best mathematics pupil in Imo State.

Chidi-Azubike garnered 50 of 60 points to take the lead in the Smartkids Mathematics competition organized by Smart Travels Limited in corroboration with Princess Shekinah International School, Owerri at the weekend.

She emerged from over 1000 pupils drawn from 200 primary schools in the state who participated in the competition.

The primary six pupil was rewarded with a N200, 000 cash prize and two brand new laptops while the first and second runners-up, Obi Echendu of Rosykids Academy and Obichukwu Okoli of Startright Schools went home with N150, 000 and N100, 000 respectively.

Some of the parents and others, who spoke to newsmen after the competition including Owunna Bibian, Deputy Director, Quality Assurance, Imo State Universal Basic Education Board and Ifeoma Chidi-Azubike commended the organizers, stressing that it would boost knowledge of mathematics among pupils as well as impact on education standard in the state.

Managing Director of Smart Travels Limited and Proprietor of Princess Shekinah International School, Obinna George-Smart Unegbu disclosed that the competition, which would be an annual event, was put together to among other things, enhance passion for science studies and to add value to education standard in the state.

He said: “Obviously, the standard of our education has continued to nosedive. From experience, there are a lot that needs to be done in education. Be it private sector, public sector or the government, we must all invest in education. There is no amount of money you put in education that is too much.

“If we are really concerned about our future as a people and nation and if we want our country to be great, everybody must invest in education no matter how little.”

Asked why he chose to organize the competition on mathematics, Unegbu said “Science is the key to any development. If Nigeria wishes to compete favourably with her counterparts in the world in the 21st century, effort must also be made to ensure that the country is science-driven.”

Nice one...wish her all the best ahead...
We need more shows and competitions like this...in a world where devilish shows lik big brother and the rest reward stupidity and nudity with millions of naira, we need many shows that reward intelligence and good character...atleast, we still have some souls that are not lost...
