Mum put up for sale on eBay - starting price £1

When unlucky-in-love Sandi Firth could not find a husband, her son decided drastic action was needed – he put her up for sale on eBay.
She found herself listed as ‘Yiddishe momma for sale’ under the collectables category on the auction website, with a starting price of £1.

Her son, James Doyen, came up with the plan because she was ‘driving me crazy’ with her disastrous exploits at dating.

The eBay offer described twice- divorced Ms Firth as ‘beautiful, great cook, educated, articulate, family focuses, caring, priceless’.

It added that she was ‘used’ but in ‘pretty good working order’ with ‘no real defects of wear and tear’.

The grandmother-of-four said she was shocked at first to be put on eBay but eventually came round to the unusual scheme to get her a husband.

‘My son is very innovative and has a wonderful way with words,’ she said. ‘I’ve had some rotten times and he has been through them with me.

‘At the end of the day, it’s a cattle market out there.’

Mr Doyen, 38, a management consultant of Crouch End, north London, said: ‘I’m a bit impulsive and decided that eBay was the best way to generate interest in something.’

He offered to deliver his mother to the winning bidder via a courier.

The offer on eBay added that Ms Firth, who runs a market research company in Leeds, was ‘stylish and loves to wear the latest fashions (sometimes forgetting her age)’.

It also stated: ‘My mum is also an amazing cook – she really is – good home-style cooking, and her cherry pie is the best.’ Sadly, potential suitors will find the listing has been taken down after eBay told Mr Doyen he could not sell people on the site.
