The Nigerian government may continue to close its porous border till 2020 to curb smuggling and tackle illicit trades between neighboring nations, and there is not stipulated date for the re-opening of the borders.

Since the border closure, this illegal business of smuggling petroleum products from Niger Republic into Nigeria from the Katsina Boarder has become a booming business.

In this video, you can find the smugglers transfering the petroleum products into a gallon containers which is a more convenient means of transport
