Sudan Deports 400 Nigerians Written by Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Kano Sunday, 01 August 2010 19:16
No fewer than 400 Nigerians were deported to the country from the Republic of Sudan after a mass raid on foreign nationals living illegally in the country. The affected Nigerians were deported at the weekend.
The deportees who consisted of both males and females were deported through Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA). Some of them who spoke with LEADERSHIP lamented the kind of treatment meted out to them by Sudan officials before their deportation.
However, confirming the deportation to our correspondent yesterday, the Kano State Comptroller of Immigration, Mr David S Parradang, said information reaching him suggested that the number of the deportees were 186, and not 400.
One of the deportees, Malam Isayaka Mohammed, disclosed they were humiliated by Sudanese officials, who locked them up in inhuman conditions and confiscated their belongings before they were later deported to Nigeria .
Mohammed, who like most people in the group, looked emaciated, disclosed that they spent 50 days in custody without enough food. "We were fed only once everyday," he said.
According to him, when the raid was conducted about two months ago, nationals of other countries were also mopped, but their respective missions intervened to protect them from being maltreated.
"When we were arrested, there were others like Nigeriens who were arrested but their countries' missions did all they could and got them released. However, Nigeria embassy did not do the same to us," Mohammed stated.
The deportee, who disclosed that he has been in Sudan for over a decade, stated that most Nigerians in the country were law-abiding and engaged in legitimate trade to make ends meet. He therefore, wondered why they were suddenly arrested.

The labour of our HEROES PAST was meant to unite and prosper us,as a people But our today's leaders' own labour is ONE NATION Different Destiny.FIRE ON SUDAN.We understand why a Nigerian can happily sell off his 42 day old cute little babe, while other (s?) will utilize $100 000 for marrying a 13 year-old fire brand from the Land of the Pharaohs.
