He spoke to newsmen in Kaduna after the inauguration of his campaign office in the north west zone.
The interview ran thus:
You have been talking about zoning, are you saying that without zoning you cannot win the election based on merit, until it is zoned to the north?
You know, I could do it and I did it in 1993, and I could do it anytime. So, whether zoning or no zoning, I believe I can compete with anybody from any part of this country.
We read that the issue of consensus candidate is deadlocked, what is the situation from your angle?
I‘m not aware of any deadlock, all that I am aware of, all what I know is that it is moving very well. The consensus process is moving very well and we will be bound by whatever agreement that will be reached.
Are you satisfied with the INEC’s arrangement so far?
So far, actually, INEC has not even started anything yet, the Electoral Act is not yet ready, therefore, activities of INEC will be based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and the constitution; the constitution itself is being amended, the Electoral Act itself is being amended. So I don’t think that INEC has started anything yet.
