SHOCKING: Police Inspector, Ya’u Yakubu Reportedly Shot Dead Colleague During Argument In Kano

A Police officer, Inspector Ya’u Yakubu, has reportedly shot dead his colleague, Sergeant Basharu Alhassan, over an altercation in Kano State.

It has been gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday night in Warawa Local Government Area when the fight broke out between Yakubu and Alhassan.

It was gathered that during the fight, Yakubu used his gun to fire shot at Alhassan,

The deceased was rushed to the Wudil General Hospital by his colleagues where he was confirmed dead by doctors.

The Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, Mr. Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident, said that Yakubu was enraged because late Alhassan laughed at him over transfer of place of work out of Warawa.

Kiyawa said that the Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Shuaibu Dikko, has ordered the transfer of the case to the headquarters for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly yesterday called for an amendment of the 1999 Constitution to enable the creation of state police and other security outfits in order to address the current security challenges in the country.

In a communique issued by the state House of Assembly, and signed by its Speaker, Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, at the end of a three-day legislative retreat for members organised by LEGIS-37 in conjunction with the National Assembly, also called for the devolution of powers to states and local governments.

The communique also hinted that the state legislators should ensure that recommendation of public account committee reports is pursued to its logical conclusion.

At the retreat with a theme: ‘Consolidating the role of Kano State House of Assembly in Nigeria’s strive for true and durable democratic ethos and development’, the legislators declared that efforts have been made for the institutionalisation and development of annual work plan documents that will guide the activities of the Assembly for improved transparency, accountability and probity in the management of resources under financial autonomy regime of the state Assembly.

They added that the Assembly should revive and strengthen the legislative budget and research office (LBRO) to help provide summary statistical data of proposed bills and motions as well as easy understanding of budget documents to the Assembly and its staff.

Also, that the leadership of the Assembly should ensure strict compliance and implementation of the resolutions reached in the retreat.

The communique added that resolutions of the Assembly should be directed to the relevant committees by the office of the Clerk/Head of Legislative Service for onward inclusion into annual appropriation law.

They agreed that regular training and re-training of Assembly members and staff should be given utmost considerations to enhance performance in the implementation process to both administrative and financial autonomy.

The state legislators should ensure that recommendation of public account committee reports is pursued to its logical conclusion.
