The police officer who is alleged to have killed 29-year-old Gift on his birthday is now on the run, the authorities say.

The officer, according to the Delta State Police Command, killed Gift at a bar in Obinomba area of Umukwata Kingdom in Ukwuani local government area of the state.

“Officers in that particular patrol team were not given a directive to go to that venue at that particular point in time to carry out such act,” police commissioner Ali Mohammed Ari said in state capital Asaba on Monday.
“Since the incident, all officers on that patrol team are already in detention. The trigger happy officer has since taken to his heels.

“If those who were in the patrol team are already in detention, you can imagine what will be the case of the killer policeman when caught”.
It can be recalled that the victim simply identified as Gift was allegedly gunned down by armed policemen who stormed his birthday party on September 25, 2021.

The police operatives were said to have shot into the air before shooting the deceased.

The victim was said to have been rushed to Dominion Medical Center in Obiaruku where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Ali noted that he has zero tolerance for police brutality of any kind.
He also recalled the recent dismissal of two police officers who beat a motorcyclist into a coma.
