Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has officially joined the 2023 presidential race on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osinbajo announced his interest in the presidency in a video posted on his social media pages on Monday, April 11, 2022.

The VP declared for the 2023 presidency three months after his political benefactor and National leader of the ruling party, Bola Tinubu announced his interest in the presidential race.

In the video, Osinbajo explained why he wants to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari saying for seven years, he has served the government in several capacities.

He said he has been everywhere in the country and has interacted with stakeholders in all sectors listening to Nigerians' experiences and their yearnings.

Earlier, Osinbajo had hosted the All Progressives Congress governors to seek their support ahead of the party’s presidential primary next month.

The VP hosted both Muslim and non-muslim governors to the breaking of Ramadan fast (Iftar) in the evening of Sunday, April 10, 2022.

Osinbajo's declaration came two days after the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi declared his interest in the 2023 presidential race.

God forbid. Ernest  Shonekan was an interim head of state plus 4 years of Obasanjo's rule as a military head of state. Followed by 8 years as a democratically elected president and 8 years of Osinbajo as vice President. TINUBU and Osinbajo from South West are shamelessly sticking their ugly necks out for 2023. Thunder will strike both of them for being selfish and inconsiderate. The living God we ( NDIGBO) serve will shove both of them aside before 2023.

I am saddened that you've allowed certain people with agendas to push you to this point rather than bow out gracefully with PMB next May with your head held high. Araye ni ko eni si Ija Ekun. Politicians often overrate their popularity which is why they often get carried away and disgraced at the polls. You on the other hand aren't a politician but a technocrat; a good one but who has no political base and who has key shortcomings in the pond of Alligators and sharks. Please do remember that you lost your Lagos ward and constituency in 2019 as a sitting VP. I fear, you'll be disgraced through this process and end up getting the Aregbesola treatment in the south west. You can't win the APC primary and APC won't win 2023 presidency. The opportunity for the latter is long gone. A sad day.

I believe in Osinbajo! He may not be a politician neither a household name in the Nigeria political cycle ,but several factors qualified him to be the best candidate out there .And one of that factor is ,this man loyalty to the project Nigeria .I hate when people put all or part of the blame of Buhari lackluster performance on this man .If anyone has ever worked or aligned with Buhari in a project ,such fellow would be frustrated out or quit or dislike his gut for being a stubborn partner or leader ever .To serve under Buhari is frustrating caz the man opinion is incomprehensible and he lives no chance for a compromise. Therefore, Osinbajo should be detached from Buhari inexcusable arrogant .This nation don’t need a politician as a president but a nationalist ,a loyalist to the Nigerian project .
