Ahead of Napoli’s final match for the season, Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has been named Serie A best striker for the 2022/23 League season.

The announcement was made on the official Twitter handle of the Italian top-flight division. Osimhen who inspired Napoli to its first Serie A title since the 1989/1990 season, won the Serie A best striker award ahead of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.

Osimhen’s Georgian teammate, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named Player of the Season by Serie A on Friday, June 2.

The Georgia international had an impressive season, and also helped Napoli secure their first Scudetto in 33 years with his contribution of 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games.

Having joined from Dinamo Batumi before the campaign, the 22-year-old follows last term’s winner Rafael Leao of AC Milan.

Serie A Chief Executive Luigi De Siervo said;

“…Kvaratskhelia`s impact on the league has been impressive. Congratulations to Napoli for having brought to Italy this talent, who from the very first matches showed off his repertoire of technique, dribbling, personality and creativity.”

Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti was Serie A Coach of the Season. Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae got the nod for best defender, beating out Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Milan full-back Theo Hernandez.

The best midfielder award goes to Inter man Barella, ahead of Adrien Rabiot of Juventus and Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Lazio’s Ivan Provedel is Serie A’s best goalkeeper and he won the award ahead of Michele Di Gregorio of Monza and Bologna’s Lukasz Skorupski.

There is also a separate award for best Under-23 Italian player, and it went to Juventus youth star Fagioli, beating Empoli’s Tommaso Baldanzi and Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini.

The 2022-23 campaign will be wrapped up on Sunday, June 4, and there are still a few things to be decided, such as the final relegation spot and who goes into the Europa League or Conference League.

A lesser award than you deserve. Switch to a league where you will be appreciated rather than tolerated.

Why do you guys always try to read meaning to any situation?What's wrong with the "Best Striker" award given to Osimhen?Judging from the fact that he scored the highest goal in Serie A this season.What higher award do you want the organizers to give him?Ballon d'or in Serie A?Awon marginalization.

Its either you are not a football fan, or you don't follow Serie A, or you just have mouth diarrhea. Osimhen is best striker because he is the leading goal scorer this season in the Serie A with his 25 goals and 4 assists so far, and he also deserves the Overall MVP considering his immense contribution in winning the Serie A for Napoli after 33 years. Take his goals out from the team and they will struggle to make the champions league places. When he was out injured, the team looked flat, so giving the MVP to someone else from the same team screams ITALY. So STFU !!!
