The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been slammed by the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Department of Architecture Students Association under the aegis of Ife Architecture Students Association (IFASA). The IFASA described allegations levelled against one of its members, Mojolaoluwa Agbabiaka, by the EFCC as baseless and another systemic oppression against Nigerian youths by state actors.

SaharaReporters had reported how some operatives of the EFCC invaded some student hostels in Oduduwa Estate near the Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State in the early hours of Wednesday, November 1 and arrested 69 students. The multiple arrests of the students sparked a protest at the Ibadan zonal command of the EFCC office in Oyo State, which conducted the raid.

IFASA in a statement condemned the arrest and allegations laid against its members, stressing that the EFCC’s operated in a manner that can best be described as a heist against the scarce human capital of our country.

IFASA in the statement signed by its President, Tim Ojo-Ibukun and other leaders said, “We, students of architecture at Obafemi Awolowo University woke up this morning, November 1, 2023, to the shocking news that OAU students staying in Finetouch and Superb hostels of Oduduwa estate were arrested around 2:30 am of November 1 in a manner best described as a heist against the scarce human capital of our country.

“Mojolaoluwa Agbabiaka on October 31 was at the Department of Architecture studio working late into the night on his studio project before deciding to go to his room at Superb hostel to rest.

“Mojolaoluwa is a part 2 student of architecture at Obafemi Awolowo University, he is the Clerk of the Architecture Students' Representatives' Council. Mojolaoluwa is a resourceful individual whom we identify with and see the baseless allegation made against him by the EFCC as another occasion of the systematic oppression of the youths in Nigeria by agents of the Nigerian state.

“Mojolaoluwa is a special one amongst us. We hereby announce to the public that the allegation against him is an undeserved act of defamation. We are confident that in the coming days, proportionate legal actions will be taken to protect the integrity of Mojolaoluwa. we do it in style

“Even in the face of constant intimidation by agents of the Nigerian state, members of our association, including Mojolaoluwa will continue to strive for excellence in entirely legitimate ways.”
