The clan’s emerging political torchbearer Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’adua, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, and his elder sister Hajiya Mairo Musa Yar’adua led the family members to pick membership forms at Yar’adua A ward office of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). They said they moved into the new party to exercise their democratic and constitutional right to belong to a political party of their choice.
Abdul’aziz, who said he did not to belong to any political party until yesterday, told newsmen at their family house that he and some members of the family made consultations with friends and other well wishers before deciding to join the opposition CPC after being satisfied with its manifesto and the sincerity of its leader, General Muhammadu Buhari.
He denied that the family had any disagreement with Governor Ibrahim Shema, whom he said is still their brother. The move, he said, is not new to the Yar’adua family because back in the Second Republic, Malam Umaru Yar’adua became a member of PRP when their father was a chieftain of the NPN.
However, Hajiya Mairo Yar’adua, who until now was one of Governor Shema’s lead campaigners, said she decided to lead the family members to dump PDP in order to identify with her brother whose vision and principles, she said, do not correspond with those of the PDP.
She said she earlier scuttled her brother’s gubernatorial ambitions in the CPC because she felt it was unfair for two brothers to engage into a political fight, but said she decided to shift her position on realizing Buhari’s resolve to effect positive change in Nigeria.
Our reporter reported that numerous family members and well wishers from across the state joined Abdul’aziz to decamp to the CPC, which the party’s state chairman Dr Yusha’u Armaya’u described as a welcome development.
Abdul’aziz however said he will not pursue any political ambition at the moment but would rather become an active participant who will join in building a virile party that will serve the interest of this nation. He urged people not to be seduced by any antics of the ruling PDP ahead of the coming polls.
