Newly-elected Liberian president, Joseph Boakai has fainted during his inauguration ceremony.

He was whisked off the podium after suffering "heat-induced faintness."

Boakai, 79, was giving his acceptance speech on Monday, January 22, 2024, when he stopped suddenly

His aides rallied around him and one fanned him with a piece of paper.

He was later led off the podium in the nation's capital, Monrovia.

The president's office said in a statement that Boakai had suffered exhaustion but that doctors had since declared him "perfectly fine."

He was very lucky that his minders were attentive and alert. Their prevention of him crashing to the ground probably saved his life. It can happen to anyone - young or old.

I think he should resign and go and take care of his health because health is wealth. @ 70+ I am enjoying everyday of my life with my hard earned money and pension allowance. The job of governance and any other work should be left for those under the pension age.
