Former Anambra Speaker, Anayo Nnebe Reportedly Died At 61

Anayo Nnebe, the former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, has reportedly died at the age of 61.

It was learnt that Nnebe died after a short illness in a federal government hospital in Anambra.

Although no official confirmation has been made yet, a family source said the former Speaker died at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital on Tuesday night after a brief illness.

Nebe, popularly known as Ichele Awka, served as the Speaker of the Anambra State Assembly from 2007 to 2011 and was born in 1963.

He was an indigene of Awka in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In 2015, he was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party to represent Awka North and South Constituency.

In April 2018, Nnebe announced his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
