Following the sentencing of former Barcelona full-back Dani Alves to four years and six months in jail for segxwal assault on December 31, 2022, his ex-wife appeared seemingly unfazed. Alves, a former Brazil international, had been held on remand at Brians 2 Prison near Barcelona since his arrest in January last year. He now faces his first night behind bars as a convicted sex offender. Shortly after the news broke, his former wife Joana Sanz shared a picture on Instagram, appearing composed, before posting another image, suggesting she was out for coffee.
During an interview with La Vanguardia from prison last summer, Alves apologized to Sanz, stating, "The only person I have to apologize to is my wife, Joana Sanz... I have already apologized to her personally here in prison, but I must do it publicly because the story is public, the offense is public, and she deserves a public apology." Sanz later appeared to confirm their split in a social media post, expressing her determination to move forward, saying, "It will take years to erase from my memory his way of looking at me" and "here is a strong woman moving on to the next stage of her life."
Alves, who became the oldest player to represent Brazil at the World Cup in December 2022 in Qatar, was ordered to stand trial last November.
