
In a bid to unravel the mystery surrounding the untimely demise of one of its civilian staff members, Mr. Ifeanyi Onumaegbu, the Nigerian Navy (NN) has initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.
Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, disclosed this development during a press briefing held in Lagos on Thursday. According to Ogalla, Onumaegbu passed away at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital (NNRH) located in Ojo, Lagos, where he was employed.
Describing the incident as deeply distressing, Vice-Admiral Ogalla revealed that the deceased had been serving as a civilian staff member of the Ministry of Defence, assigned to the Laboratory Department of NNRH since 2009.
"On March 31, Mr. Ifeanyi Onumaegbu was discovered lifeless in his office at NNRH," Ogalla stated, highlighting the unsettling circumstances surrounding the discovery of Onumaegbu's body.
A preliminary investigation into the matter indicated that Onumaegbu had been involved in a confrontation on March 26, reportedly with both a civilian woman and certain NN personnel within the Navy Town Barracks premises.
The Nigerian Navy expressed its profound condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, pledging to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind his demise.
