In a move aimed at enhancing efficiency and convenience, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative for the distribution of the upcoming national ID card. The commission revealed that the distribution process will now be handled through individuals' banks, revolutionizing how Nigerians access their ID cards.
Under this new arrangement, applicants will no longer need to visit specific ID card centers but can conveniently collect their cards from their local banks. This strategic collaboration between NIMC and the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) aims to streamline the issuance process and improve accessibility for all citizens.
The integration of the national ID cards into the existing protocols for issuing debit/credit cards by banks promises a seamless experience for applicants. They can request their cards, which will be linked with their National Identification Number (NIN), through various channels such as the self-service online portal, NIMC offices, or their respective banks.
This innovative approach will leverage the AFRIGO card scheme, a domestic system empowered by NIBSS, to ensure efficiency and reliability in card distribution. Additionally, applicants will have the flexibility to choose between collecting their cards from designated centers or opting for delivery to their preferred location, albeit at an additional cost borne by the applicants.
With this new initiative, NIMC aims to simplify the ID card issuance process, making it more accessible and convenient for all Nigerians.
