Tragedy struck Tsohon Garin Nangere in Yobe State as severe rain and strong winds resulted in the death of a 7-year-old boy and left 20 people seriously injured.

The incident, which occurred around 9 AM today, caused significant damage in the Nangere Local Government Area, destroying approximately 50 houses and shops. Residents were engaged in their daily activities when the sudden weather event wreaked havoc on the community.

In the wake of the disaster, the Yobe Emergency Management Agency (YEMA), in collaboration with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), has intensified efforts to mitigate future occurrences. They have initiated a state-level workshop focused on community engagement and sensitization regarding flood preparedness. This workshop aims to develop the 2024 emergency preparedness and contingency plan.

The workshop's objective is to share local response mechanisms, integrate community-based strategies with state-level efforts, and formulate a comprehensive community-based emergency preparedness and contingency plan.

The community mourns the loss of the young boy as efforts continue to provide relief and support to those affected by the devastating weather.
