The Adamawa State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak, resulting in 12 deaths. This was announced by the State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, during a statement in Yola on Sunday.
Tangwami revealed that out of 50 suspected cholera cases, 30 were confirmed positive, with six of the deaths occurring in medical facilities and the remaining six at home. A total of 308 people had been admitted for treatment, with 244 already discharged.
"We received the results of samples sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for confirmation," said Tangwami. "Unfortunately, 30 samples tested positive for cholera."
The commissioner advised the public to maintain vigilance concerning their movements, hygiene, and water sources. He also assured that the government is working tirelessly to manage the outbreak and called on residents to cooperate with health workers conducting awareness campaigns.
“We ask for continued prayers and support as we work to contain this situation,” he added.
