The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended a suspect involved in a violent armed robbery that left a family critically injured. Amir Mohammed, 24, of Ja’en Quarters in Gwale Local Government Area, was arrested on November 7, 2024, during a security patrol by NSCDC personnel at Sharada Federal Housing Estate, Kano.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, detailing the harrowing incident. According to Idris-Abdullahi, Mohammed forcefully broke into the residence of Mustafa Abubakar, attacking both Abubakar and his family. The assailant reportedly stabbed Abubakar in 11 sensitive areas, including his neck and chest, in a bid to incapacitate him and seize his smartphone and laptop, which he allegedly intended to use to drain the victim’s bank accounts.
After the assault, Abubakar and his family were rushed to a hospital for urgent medical treatment. The statement also revealed that this was not Mohammed’s first break-in at Abubakar’s home; on November 1, he had allegedly entered the compound and stolen two of Abubakar’s SIM cards.
Authorities are intensifying efforts to locate an alleged accomplice, Abbas Danmama, who remains at large. Following preliminary investigations, the NSCDC plans to transfer the case to the Nigeria Police for further inquiry and legal proceedings.
