The Nasarawa State Police Command has disclosed that three people were killed in a conflict between farmers and herders.

Commissioner of Police, Umar Nadada, while briefing journalists in Lafia on Thursday, said the clash occurred in the Dogon Duste community, located between Nasarawa and honeypot Local Government Areas.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received a report that there was a clash between farmers and herders on Monday, at about 4:30 pm.

“On reaching there, it was discovered that two people were killed in the farm while four others injured were rushed to a Primary Healthcare for treatment,“
he said.

He stated that the police later discovered one more corpse in the jungle during a search operation, increasing the total number of deaths to three.

The commissioner stated that normalcy had returned to the region, and that the police will investigate the situation.

He stated that the police are working with the community to apprehend individuals involved for the act and guarantee that they face the consequences.

The police boss asked communities to continue to increase coordination with security authorities in order to ensure long-term security improvements in the state.

Mr Nadada pointed out that the preservation of life and property was a joint responsibility, thus all communities must unite with the command to address security concerns.

“We have already developed an action plan that revolves around collaborative policing after a careful study of the trend of the crime pattern in the state,” he said.

The commissioner stated that the command had made tremendous headway in its fight against insecurity in the state.

He stated that partnership with members of the public had helped to reduce insecurity and called for its continuation.

“The state is adjudged to be one of the most peaceful in the country because of the collaborative strategy with the communities, and the support from the state government,” he said.
