Operatives of the Zone 2 Command in Lagos have arrested three individuals, including a mother and her son, for allegedly conspiring to sell a three-bedroom apartment without the consent of the rightful owner.
The suspects—Roseline Emeso Odior Adeku, 53, her son Greg Abemere Odior Adeku, 28, and their co-accused, Rick Ugbo Azubuike, 58—were apprehended in connection with the fraudulent sale of a property located at 8 Faluyi Street, Ajuwon, Lagos. The apartment was reportedly sold to Mr. Okoror Ehiaghe Godspower and Mrs. Okoror Olubunmi Modupe for ₦22 million.
However, the legitimate owner of the property, Gilbert Odior Adeku, denied any knowledge of the sale, asserting that the property had never been up for sale.
Police investigations revealed that Greg Adeku had fraudulently sworn an affidavit at the Ikeja High Court on October 4, 2024, claiming ownership of the apartment. He allegedly used the affidavit to facilitate the illegal transaction despite knowing that he was not the rightful owner.
The scam was uncovered when the buyers attempted to take possession of the property, only to be informed by Gilbert Adeku that the sale was invalid. Shocked by the revelation, the buyers filed a petition with the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Adegoke Fayoade, who instructed immediate action, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were charged with multiple offenses, including unlawful property takeover, forgery, and theft. According to Police Prosecutor ASP Ibrahim Haruna, the defendants used forged documents to deceive the buyers and sell the apartment for ₦22 million. These actions were found to violate sections 411, 80, 314, and 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws.
At their arraignment before Magistrate A.O. Alogba at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court granted them bail at ₦500,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. Pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions, the court ordered the suspects' remand at the Ikoyi and Kirikiri correctional facilities.
The case has been adjourned for further hearing.
