In a bold move to restore order and safety, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce launched a comprehensive midnight operation on November 30, 2024, to clamp down on illegal activities along the Akowonjo-Egbeda Road. The operation, which began at midnight and lasted until 4:30 AM, targeted street trading, illicit drug sales, and various traffic violations that have plagued the area.

The team focused on the stretch of road between Shobo and Jimoh bus stops, notorious for heavy street trading and the illegal sale of narcotics. Street vendors were found occupying large sections of the road, obstructing traffic and creating hazards for commuters. Additionally, illegal drug dealers were using the cover of these street vendors to conduct their transactions in nearby streets.

During the operation, 187 individuals were apprehended, and multiple makeshift stalls and structures were dismantled. Items being sold unlawfully, along with other contraband, were seized by the taskforce.

All suspects arrested during the raid are set to face charges in court as part of the ongoing effort to rid the area of criminal activities and restore public order. The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy for illegal activities across the state.
