A 28-year-old man has tragically died after being electrocuted while allegedly under the influence of hard drugs in Ondo State. The incident occurred when the young man, reportedly intoxicated, climbed a fence and came into contact with a live wire.
Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the fatality in a statement issued on Friday, December 6, 2024. According to Odunlami, the man had taken what is suspected to be hard drugs before the incident, which led to his electrocution.
The police spokesperson used the opportunity to issue a public warning, urging youths in the state to avoid drug abuse.
“Esther Igbekele’s song ‘Se Normal’ serves as the best advice for those caught in the cycle of substance use,” Odunlami said. “Youth are the future, and it’s heartbreaking that some continue to ignore warnings about the dangers of drugs. You have a long way to go—don’t let drugs derail your future.”
She also expressed her sadness over the loss of the young man, stating, "A 28-year-old man suspected to have used hard drugs climbed a fence and touched a live wire—tragically, he was electrocuted. Rest in peace to the deceased. DON'T BE A VICTIM, SE NORMAL."
The police have reiterated their call for youths to reject substance abuse and make better choices for their health and safety. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drug use, urging young people to act responsibly and safeguard their futures.
