In a significant drug enforcement operation, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a 65-year-old grandmother, Ramata Bola Adeyemo, on Friday, December 6, for alleged possession of prohibited substances.
The arrest took place at her residence on 62 Odunfa Street, Lagos Island, where agents uncovered 20.6 liters of codeine-based syrup, a controlled substance often misused for recreational purposes.
The NDLEA confirmed the operation as part of its ongoing efforts to curb the distribution of illicit drugs in Lagos and across the country. Adeyemo's arrest highlights the increasing involvement of unsuspecting demographics, including the elderly, in the drug trade.
Authorities have vowed to conduct further investigations to determine the source of the substances and any possible networks connected to the case. NDLEA officials reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug-related activities and warned the public against engaging in such unlawful practices.
Adeyemo is expected to face legal proceedings in accordance with the nation’s drug laws.
