Controversial UK-based clergyman, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, has hit back at Nigerians criticizing his choice of luxury items, calling for more scrutiny of wealthier pastors in the country.
In a fiery statement, Adegboyega, known for his extravagant lifestyle, addressed the backlash over his designer wardrobe and lavish cars. Drawing comparisons to Nigerian pastors who own private jets, he questioned why the public overlooks their extravagant assets while targeting him.
The outspoken pastor accused Nigerian pastors of concealing their wealth. “Their pastors are spineless because they hide their cars. But I’m true to myself, and I’ll drive any car I like,” he declared.
Adegboyega dismissed concerns about returning to Nigeria despite the criticisms. Highlighting his simplicity beneath the surface, he added, “I’m not afraid of returning to Nigeria because just two shoes can sustain me for three years.”
The pastor’s remarks have sparked widespread debate, reigniting discussions about the opulent lifestyles of religious leaders and their accountability to their congregations. Adegboyega, who leads the Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church (SPAC Nation) in London, has long been a polarizing figure for his flashy displays of wealth and unconventional approach to ministry.
