Gernot Rohr, the coach of the Benin Republic national team, has expressed his belief that Nigerian international Ademola Lookman is destined to win the CAF African Player of the Year award. This prediction follows Lookman's inclusion in the final nominees for the prestigious award, recognizing his exceptional performances for both his club and the Super Eagles.

Lookman, 27, has had a remarkable year, showcasing his skills at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he contributed three goals and one assist in seven appearances. Additionally, his historic hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final further solidified his reputation as a standout player on the international stage.

Lookman has so far provided 11 goals and five assists from 18 outings across all competitions for his team this season

In a chat with Foot Africa, Gernot Rohr who previously coached the Super Eagles stated that Lookman has become a complete player and has done enough to win the award.

“He has made a lot of progress. His difficult first seasons in England and Germany are now a thing of the past. He has managed to get back up and shine,” Rohr said to Foot Africa.

“I followed him a few years ago with the Super Eagles. He went from the shadows to the light. Today, he is a complete player, as effective as an assister as he is as a scorer.”
