Some goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak at a warehouse located at Tabansi Estate, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the inferno, which erupted on Saturday evening, led to panic within the community.

A resident of Tabasi Estate, identified as Okey, said that firefighters battled for several hours to put off the fire and prevented it from escalating to other neighbouring structures.

He said: “The cause of the fire is still unknown, but we suspect it could be as a result of excessive heat, as the weather has been extremely hot.

“We suddenly observed a thick smoke coming out from a corner of the building, and before we knew what was happening, it started increasing and burning fast.

“The situation created fear as residents and other passers-by mobilised to quench the fire before firefighters arrived.

“While some people living around struggled to salvage some of their belongings for fear that the fire might escalate.”

Also speaking over the incident on Sunday, the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, in a statement, disclosed that no life was lost during the incident.
