Social media has been set ablaze with speculation that Afrobeats sensation Asake has parted ways with his record label, YBNL, and its founder, Olamide.
The rumors intensified after eagle-eyed fans noticed that Asake unfollowed Olamide on Instagram, removed YBNL from his bio, and deleted all posts on his account.
Entertainment blogger Cutie Juls added fuel to the fire, claiming that Asake’s contract with YBNL had expired. According to the blogger, Olamide presented a new contract for renewal, but the “Sungba” crooner declined, signaling his intent to go independent.
“Asake leaves YBNL and dumps Olamide,” the blog post read. “Olamide tried everything to renew the deal, but Asake refused. The final straw came two weeks ago when Asake walked out of negotiations entirely, opting to be his own boss.”
