Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made a major breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking by capturing a prominent Lagos socialite and wanted drug kingpin, Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, also known as “Iya Ruka.” The 61-year-old businesswoman was arrested on New Year's Day at her mansion in the Okota area of Lagos following the interception of a large consignment of illicit drugs.
According to an official statement from NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Elediye, who has been on the agency's wanted list for years, led a notorious drug cartel operating out of the Mushin area of Lagos. Despite her criminal activities, she managed to maintain a low profile by posing as a legitimate businesswoman importing fabrics and shoes from China.
Her true identity and involvement in the drug trade remained hidden until January 1, 2025, when NDLEA operatives, acting on reliable intelligence, intercepted a white Isuzu truck driven by one of Elediye's staff members, 41-year-old Abideen Adio. The truck contained 44 jumbo sacks holding a total of 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis.
Following the interception, the NDLEA team moved swiftly to Elediye's residence at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, off Ago Palace Way in Okota, where she was arrested.
Babafemi revealed that Elediye was not only a major player in the drug underworld but also a well-known socialite, recognized as the Iyalaje of the Blessing Sisters, an influential social club of women in Lagos. Her arrest marks a significant victory for the NDLEA in disrupting one of Lagos's most covert drug cartels.
