Two separate road accidents on Tuesday left at least one person dead and six others with injuries of varying severity.
The accidents took place near the Otedola Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and at Ijebu Imusin on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
According to an incident report from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, PUNCH Metro gathered that the accident at Otedola Bridge occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
Oke-Osanyintolu stated that the accident, which involved four articulated trucks carrying containers, was caused by reckless driving, leading to one death and three injuries.
He explained, “On arrival at the scene of the secondary incident nearby, the agency’s Response Team discovered that a multiple-truck accident involving four articulated trucks laden with containers had occurred.
“Investigations conducted by the team revealed that the incident occurred due to reckless driving, which resulted in the accident trucks getting stuck to each other due to the force of impact on collision.
“Unfortunately, one adult male extricated from beneath the first accident truck lost his life to the incident. Three adult males sustained various degrees of injuries. The two seriously affected victims were taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving ‘on-the-spot’ medical attention at the incident scene.”
In a separate incident, the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, confirmed a lone accident involving a Sienna vehicle at Ijebu Imusin, near Imeri Junction, along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
He added that the accident was caused by excessive speed, which resulted in a loss of control and injured three females out of the vehicle’s six occupants.
“A lone RTA involving a Sienna white colour with registration number RBC 751 XU occurred at Ijebu Imusin, before Imeri Junction, along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
“Six occupants were involved, including four females and two males. Three females sustained injuries, and no death was recorded.
“According to an eyewitness, the accident was caused by excessive speed and loss of control.”
He concluded that “the three injured female victims have been taken to Ronal Hospital, Ijebu Ode, by TRACE operatives.”
