A mobile court in Umuahia has sentenced a 27-year-old man, Chukwunyere Okechukwu Akomas, to 14 years imprisonment for defiling two minors, aged 8 and 11.

The sentencing took place on Friday, January 10, 2025. Akomas was found guilty on two counts of defilement and received a 14-year prison term for each count, to run concurrently.

The verdict was shared by a human rights activist and coordinator of the Behind Bar Foundation’s Abia State chapter, who commended the court's swift and decisive action.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities and advocacy groups to address child abuse and ensure justice for victims in the region.
